    CAmpagnolo 12-Speed Review

Posted by Jimmy Wong liong on 1st Jul 2018

Finally got the 12-Speed groupo on the Oltre xr4 frame that I have had since its release. The shifting is crisp and precise. The front shifting is as stiff as previous generations while the rear shifter was noticeably lighter in effort compared to last years 11-Speed mechanical group. The front shifting took some getting used to. 3 click to get on the big chain ring and 3 to come off, BUT you had to release and push again to get to go all the way down to its lowest position. 3 up and 4 down. Not sure if that is the correct operation but to not have rub on the small ring to largest cog that's what I had to do. Rear shifting was excellent. Right out of the box the rear derailleur would operate correctly and hit every cog upon shifting. The rear adjustment screw simply eliminated driveline noise. Set the limit screws, and adjust the b-screw to get the proper chain angle to the 11-tooth cog and that was it. Almost too easy. Cross overs from big ring to 32 tooth and small ring to 11 tooth cog are possible. The noise from the drive train wasn't from chain rub on the derailleur, it was the chain straining to make the angle to the chainring teeth. The crankset is absolutely beautiful. People compare it to the Shimano crank, but I think it resembles the Mavic 631 crank in magnificence. Brake levers are comfortable and apparently can be set to 3 positions. One to open the calipers for wheels changes and two to change the reach. I can't wait until the 12-speed eps comes out. If you're a fan of Campagnolo you will not be disappointed.
