Triathlete Jordan Rapp aka Rappstar rode these to victory at IM Canada. Got a time trial coming up? Don’t put in all of that hardcore speed training then drain your effort through inferior wheels. The 808s were made for time trialing! And sprinting! And general badassery! Their 81mm deep dish-like profile will slice through the wind but will remain stable in cross winds and stiff enough for a sprint finish. And the unique carbon/aluminum combo keeps them light but durable. Featuring Zipp’s updated 88/188 hubs improved for stiffness and reliability these blacked-out babies are ready to ride. Front 902 grams Rear 1019 grams. New 2013 Campagnolo Shimano and Sram. 10 / 11 speed Cassette Body.

To achieve maximum performance with every Zipp wheelset, our engineers create uniquely tuned rim profiles for every combination of rim depth and tire style. So the process of developing the 808 Firecrest® Carbon Clincher was much more complex than merely adding clincher sidewalls to the 808 Tubular or increasing the depth of the 404 Firecrest Carbon Clincher.

Optimizing the revolutionary Firecrest aero-rim concept for an 82 mm depth and the distinct airflow pattern of clincher tires required us to evaluate a slew of minutely varied prototypes through CFD, or computational fluid dynamics, software and in the wind tunnel. At 27.5 mm wide, the final version is the fastest deep-section carbon clincher in the world. Yet, with a weight of only 1,795 grams, it more than holds its own on the climbs.

With Firecrest’s unparalleled approach to the wheel’s center of pressure, the 808 Firecrest Carbon Clincher also handles crosswinds with the stability you’d normally associate with a much shallower rim – making the 808 Carbon Clincher ideal for non-disc-legal courses like Kona. Plus, the wide rim shape provides efficient power transfer along with comfort and durability, making it an excellent choice for just about any terrain and riding style.

In addition to Firecrest, all Zipp full-Carbon Clinchers feature an exclusive heat-resistant resin as part of the composite structure. Utilized in the 808 Firecrest Carbon Clincher, this technology prevents spikes in rim temperature and tire pressure that can impact performance and handling. In fact, heat dissipation is improved so substantially that ours are the only carbon clinchers to pass stringent European safety testing without limitations on rider weight or brake-pad options. So every rider can tackle even the longest, most technical descents with confidence.

For triathletes and road racers seeking superior aero performance, stable handling, and the convenience of clinchers, there’s no faster all-around wheelset than the 808 Firecrest Carbon Clincher.

New for 2014, the 808 Firecrest Carbon Clincher is built with a the latest iteration of our 188 rear hub, the V9, along with new spoke-lacing pattern for the rear wheel - refinements that result in improved stiffness and durability. The new hub was developed in cooperation of superstar sprinter Mark Cavendish of the Omega Pharma – Quick-Step Cycling Team and is in use by other top pro cyclists and triathletes including Pete Jacobs and Mirinda Carfrae.

Cavendish received early hub prototypes in January 2013 and logged 13,000 kilometers (8,078 miles) on continually refined variants, including his stage victories at the Giro d’Italia and the 2013 Tour de France. His feedback helped optimize the hub’s flange geometry, stiffness and weight.

The new 188/V9 hub has larger precision Swiss steel bearings for increased durability. Our new “virtual 3 cross” lacing on both sides of rear wheel improves stiffness, achieving 3 cross stiffness in a 2 cross pattern with a new spoke geometry. The 188/V9 has 25 percent more torsional stiffness than a leading competitive hub. This measure of stiffness is crucial for the direct power transfer to the rear wheel for out-of-the saddle sprints and climbs. The new hub also is laterally (side-to-side) stiffer that its rival or predecessor.

New for 2014 wheels, our fully die cut Classic White and Beyond Black rim decals are borderless, thinner and lighter.
