Campy SR 12 Spd Mechanical Rim Brake Groupset

Posted by GreginCA on 20th Dec 2021

This is the best mechanical Campy Groupset that I've owned, and I've owned 9spd, 11spd, & 11+, in Chorus, Record, Super Record incarnations. The shifting of this groupset is crisper, the 12th gear is a slight plus, and the ergonomics (already great) are a bit better. This iteration also seems more robust than its 11 & 11+ versions. It's set up, use -- no small adjustments needed. I also own an EPS 11 groupset. Functionally, its only advantage is that you can shift under load. Climbing a really steep incline is the one circumstance where that is a significant plus. Shfting mechanically, though, is involving and satisfying the way that a good manual car transmission is. The modulation of the rim brakes is excellent. Less power, but more elegance, than disc brakes. In dry weather with Campy Boras and red Campy brake pads, the power is more than sufficient. I doubt that you can do better for a rim brake groupset. However, the difference between the shifting of this group and that of a 12 speed Record group that I own is discernible, but slight.
